Twitter and Conferences? Faculty Meetings?

So I am new to Twitter but I admit to really liking it. I like the challenge of 140 characters (or whatever it is – they count them down for you) and try to do it by ways other than “u” for you and “r” for are – that seems like cheating.

But this article from Inside Higher Ed.com about Tweeting at conferences struck me as very interesting. Isn’t it about sharing new ideas? Or is the outcry about tweeting at a conference (with the suggestion that someone presenting could then be “scooped”) just proof that it really is all about prestige – being seen – for professional gain rather than the sharing of ideas in the discipline?

And what about faculty meetings at McDaniel? Should what goes on in the Forum stay in the Forum, or should we tweet comments during it?
